Husband and wife Richard and Karen Blacker are 30-year veterans in the food service business. Growing up in Newton, Richard worked at Blacker's Bros., a specialty fruit store owned by his father and a beloved staple in Newton Center that opened in the 1960s.
From 1985 to 2005, Richard and Karen owned a wholesale cookie business. Blacker's Bakeshop has been their newest endeavor in the food industry, opening in 2008. Joining them in 2014, their daughter Becca works in a managerial role, making this truly a family business. Blacker's has quickly become a favorite spot for locals in need of allergy-friendly, Kosher baked goods - and residents who just need a sugar fix.
